Most hardware installed on a Windows XP computer system requires an installed driver in order to function properly on a computer. The driver informs the computer of how it functions and what tasks it is capable of performing. However, if you find the hardware is either not being detected or failing to run as it should, it most likely means there is an issue with the driver. To correct the problem with the driver, you must first uninstall the current driver for the hardware; then, install the latest driver update, made available for free through the hardware provider.

Delete Windows XP Driver

Click “Start,” “Control Panel,” then double-click the “System” icon. This loads a small window with all the current hardware listed. Once here, click the “Hardware” tab, then “Device Manager.” A new window loads with all the current drivers installed on the computer. Scroll through the list of drivers until you find the driver for the equipment that currently isn’t working properly. Right-click the driver listing; then, choose “Delete.” Click “Yes” when asked if you are sure you want to remove the driver, and the computer delete the file information from your system.
