Fix a Slow Computer by Optimizing the Hard Drive

Having enough disk space for temp files and swap files can make a significant difference in fixing a slow running computer. There should be at least 250MB of free space. Having more than that can only improve performance further.

To determine the free disk space of a computer

  1. Open My Computer
  2. Highlight and right-click the C: Drive or any other drive listed. (Your primary drive is generally C:)
  3. From the pop-up menu select Properties.
  4. The Properties window will display the used space, free space, and the total capacity of the hard drive.

If there is insufficient disk space available, then archiving or deleting files may be necessary.
